Pillar 1 brings together Research and Innovation funding agencies from Europe and Africa, committed to co-funding joint calls as part of the Call Steering Committee. Each agency allocates a budget to the calls, supplemented by a share of the European Commission's grant. Projects selected through these calls are submitted by consortia of R&I partners from both continents, with each agency funding the partners from its respective country. The eligible topics for the calls align with the six Multi-annual Roadmaps developed during Pre-LEAP-RE, covering renewable resources, standalone systems, mini-grids, end-of-life equipment, productive uses, and domestic uses. Pillar 1 is co-coordinated by ANR (France) and MESRS (Algeria).
